Clearing the Marketing Fog Surrounding the Oscillatory Atomic Force Microscopy Modes

Our presenter will be Dr. Sergei Magonov.

Dr. Magonov received a doctorate in physics and mathematics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Sergei has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, 1 book, and 15 book chapters. He is now CEO of NT-MDT Development, an R&D subsidiary that was established for the development of novel experimental and applications capabilities using NT-MDT microscopes.

The instrumental capabilities of this technique largely rely on the use of oscillatory modes in low noise and low thermal drift measurements conditions. The oscillatory modes fall into the resonant (AM mode) and non-resonant (HybriD™) classes depending on the choice of operation frequency with respect to the probe dynamics. The complimentary nature of these techniques will be clarified by comparing experimental results collected with resonant amplitude modulation and non-resonant HybriD™ modes on polymer and biological samples in ambient and liquid environments. By providing the broadest range of tip-sample interactions in different levels of force and at various interaction times these modes offer a researcher the most comprehensive approach to study nanostructures.
